Default Predator II engine?

Whats a good engine for the predator II for high speed? Not looking to compete at all, just something to play with, and would like something with a throttle control. Considering low end engines and high end ones. Also, what is the largest fuel tank (with bladder) that will fit in it? Here are a few engines I am considering.

Hi there . Sorry for not responding sooner but with a face like that can you blame us. You will find that a super tigar 40 or Thunder tigar pro will do what you are looking for. Use a 9x6 or 9x6.5 APC prop. and a Nelson ultra thrust muffler. Its not legal to race but it sure makes things interesting. Hope this what you are looking for.

You might want to look at the Jett super sport .40.. or call Jett, ask them about engines with throttles, they might have something to recommend.

You sound like you are in the same boat as me, no real racing close by. I have a ST .45 on my Viper right now, Jett muffler, radar so far is around 134mph, might be more if I would fly lower and right at the gun. Next I have the Rossi Q500 .40 for it, but it won't out-run the Jetts (I don't think anyway) it says over 18,000 in the air, 9x7 prop, my ST is almost 17,000 on the ground 9x7. Have fun with what you get, and a TT .40 is cheap if you want to race later.

Jett no longer makes the QJ-45 engine..... it was a special item offered for some european classes or racing years ago.

For your needs, a Jett SJ-46 or SJ-50 with the SS muffler will give you outstanding stop end speed, and sport engine user-friendly operation.

If you want the absolute most, you will want the Jett SJ-60LX engine. Same "40" size, just outperforms any similar size engine. RPM range similar to the Q-500 engine, but it idles and transitions great. However, I will urge some caution if you go the 60LX route.... its big power, and although I have had no problems with my Pred-IIs flying the 428 engines (minor add/most to the firewall area), a few folks appear to have some reservations putting that sort of power on this plane. Bonus here is that the 60LX is just as happy on the front of a UltraSport .40 swinging a 10x6 at 18,000 rpm as it is screaming with a 8.8x9 turning 19,000 on the quickie

The Jett slim 6 oz tank fits well.

As noted, for a good combination and a good value, try the Thunder Tiger .46 and add the Jett-stream or Ultra-thrust muffler to it. Fly a standard APC 9x7 or an APC 8.5x7.25 prop.

Thanks, I did get an email back from Jett and he recommended the 60xl, so I will probably go that route. What kind of flight times should I expect on the 6oz tank? It will only be wide open maybe 30% of the flight.

Wide open, the 60LX will burn fuel about the same as the Q-500 engine - so in that case 3 minutes.

If you throttle back, figure maybe 4 or 5 minutes.

Well, I changed my mind and went with the Rossi 53 and Nelson pylon engine, any ideas on what props to start with?
