Hitec 5245 for the ailerons and 5245 or 5125 for the elevators.

V-tail elevators I use primarily Futaba 9650's, but have used JR 3121, JR 3421, Airtronics 94761, Hitec 5245, Expert SL 451, futaba 3102, and Hitec 225's. I had a set of 85's mounted and was going to give them a try on a 428 bird, but I just wasn't satsified with how they were centering (they were a little sloppy around center) and replaced them with a set of JR 368's that I had laying around.

I've tried just about all of the servos, and the Futaba 9650 is my newest favorite for 428. Its got the speed, torque, nylon gears, and is lighter than most.

For the best lower cost option on elevators, the Expert SL 451 is still my go to economy servo.

For ailerons, I like a servo a little stronger than the Expert and stick with either the futaba 9650, JR 3121, or JR 3421.

Be careful with the JR 368s. They have a bad history of failures. I have experienced this several times along with many others!

The best JR servo for the v-tail would be the 3121. I have used them for a long time with great results.

I've had these 368's in a v-tailed 424 plane for about 3 years with off and on use. They have been good, I probably wouldn't buy more due to the cost.

Then give the Expert SL 451 servos a shot. They center better and cost about the same as the 225's. I still can't tell the difference between a 451 and JR 3121.

I hav been using the 225's as well, they say there are centering problem. Some of the guys have been going to the expert srevos for that reason as well. I have not really noticed the centering issue myself and I am happy with the 225's. The linkage needs to be tight however, no slop. I may switch in the future to the expert servos as well.

Good Luck

I'm pretty happy with my Hitec 225's (for 424) but just went to order some Expert 451's for a new model and found Horizon no longer lists them[]

Perhaps the JR Sport MN48's are a replacement but they have been on backorder for several months...so my new Hurrikane will have JR 3121's.

Darrol Cady just told me that the JR Sport MN48 is the SAME Servo as the Expert SL451...just different marketing. I would try some different internet suppliers - they might be in stock by now. Maybe Horizon hasn't updated their web page...

Horizon now has the MN48's...the same day I ordered some JR 3121's my 2+month backordered MN48's came in!
No problem, they'll find their way into a quickie soon

You can't go wrong with the 3121, its a great servo. I just can't see enough of a difference between that and a 451 (or MN 48) to use them in my local racing planes.

Dave,

I have been using some 3021 servos for VTAIL (3121 predessesor) for years and believe this line of servo is bullet proof as well as performing. Is the Expert 451 or JR MN48 coreless like the 3021 and 3121?
