424 Racing in Wisconsin / Illinois
Less than 2 weeks to go before the 424 racing starts locally.
First race May 19th and 20th in Hilbert, WI (Near Appleton).
I'm looking forward to meeting everyone and flying my new Viper.
See http://www.q500424.com/ for more details!

I'd throw a picture of mine up, but I don't have a digital camera over here. Yours looks great as always Jim. Lets just say, mine is flying the "Norman" colors as well
Not sure how much mine weighs, but I would be very surprised if it was under 3 lbs 12 oz. I'll bring some sockets or something else heavy, just in case

Yeah, Mick made it up to one of our races a couple years ago, and I met most of them going to the Rockford races a few years ago. Should be fun.
As to the winning, I'm definately not counting on it. I'm a little concerned that the 608' course may cause me to cut as I tend to get impatient
I'm just going for the fun, and to support my "new" local racing. Should be a lot of fun.
Ohhh Boy, Albert with a Nelson. Better hope that full flying tail is strong

Dave you should be able to win as there will be no R-200 to knock your **** in the dirt. I am going to miss beating up on you this weekend.

Yeah, but I'm flying a viper
Lots of home brew original designs over here also, I think thats great, and makes it fun.
R200's wouldn't be legal with the Composite Tail.
I'll miss your positive, constructive, attitude, but mostly your version of events after you lose a race

RE: 424 Racing in Wisconsin / Illinois
Viper test flown today, flies fine. Nothing special, nothing bad. A bit tougher for the low takeoff to one, really gotta shove in a lot of down once it breaks ground.
Wheels held up fine. Going to try and get a few more flights on it tommorrow, and the motor seems to be getting better. I'm only seeing Low 16,000's peak on the ground with the 9x6, but runs well in the air. Been running it about 600 rpm rich, taking it up wind and quite high before doing a split S dive back downwind. Really unloads.
I have the Tetra on the C.G. mark, but I definately get some elevator trim changes from flight to flight. Might be the Expert SL451's on the elevators. Its not real bad, but is a little annoying. The wing didn't need any trim, so I must have gotten a straight one.
The locals at the new field seem great, although it is a much smaller club. I'll have to break them in slowly to the Rock Tradition!

I.m glad your Vipper with a TT 40 Pro did well today. Mine on the other hand did not. Oh it didn,t crash or anything like that ,but the needle valve decided to come loos and fly away. No need to go looking for that I,l never fide a needle in a hay field Oh well I.l get another one monday at the LHS.

RE: 424 Racing in Wisconsin / Illinois
I'm pretty impressed with the TT .40 pro, I've never run one up till last week. This thing has run perfectly through a 1/2 gallon of bench running, and the 5-6 runs today. Needles great, and doesn't appear to be leaking anywhere.
Its a little odd running at these RPM's, my history has been with the .46AX that seems to run better at lower rpms, its kinda fun running a little screamer.
Motor has been very good, can't wait to start leaning on it a little.

Hay Dave I got myself one of those 129 doller radar guns from Acadamy. I,m going out to my old field today and get one of my friends to clock my Vipper with TT pro 40 on it. The only bad thing is that I have a Nelson racing pipe on it ,so my numbers are going to be a little hire than yours.

Well I have good news and bad news. Good news is stole the Needle valve out of my Pred 2 and put it in my Vipper. It didn,t fall out during flight this time. So I got that prob. solved. Now the bad news. Dave is right these small cheep radar guns have trouble picking up the Q-500 airframes. I think I only got it to read one time and that was wronge. It said I was going 40 MPH. Ya wright. Anyway some of the guys were talking it over and they beleave that it might be geting a bad sig. off the turning prop. One of the guys said I should try puting some silver or crome tape on the out side leading edge of one wing. I tryed it on a biger rc airplane and it worked fine. Buying a more exspinsev radar gun is out of the qwestion my wife would kill me. So I need someones help to try and get this one to read a Q-500 airframe. Thanks in addvance.

I don't think putting anything on the plane will make it pick it up. The planes are just too small and fast for the cheap radars guns. I'd take it back if I were you.
Well, 1 flight, and one landing (minus 1 wheel) on the Viper today. The motor is running great, and the plane flies fine. Should be good to go for next weekend after I put the new wheels on it.

I,m to hard headed to do that Dave. Besides the guys at work have these small rubber balls that they like to bonce on everything ,so I asked them if they would like to find out who can through it the fastest. So far two of them are neck and neck one has the record of 70MPH and the other one has 68 MPH. I,m sure I can fide a use for it. Just need to put my two brain cells together to come up with an answer.Oh and about the wheels Dave I hate to be the one to say it but we told you so.

What surprised me about the wheel, was it was not the axle that popped out of the wheel, but I lost the bolt going through, despite being locktited (blue).
Glad I had the Twins plane with, worked on some issues with that. I'm playing with mixes with aileron slaved to elevator to smooth out the turns. Works pretty good, but the wing is still warped. Can't get enough aileron throw to put a TT on it, at slow speeds I can't turn left. Makes that last turn on final interesting.

Dave I taked to a smart cooky today and he said that balsa wood and foam absorb radar waves. So maybe puting alumanim tape is a good ideal afterall. It makes sens this gun will pick up a rubber ball at 70 MPH every time so there has to be a reason why it is having truoble seeing a Q-500 at 100 or so MPH.

RE: 424 Racing in Wisconsin / Illinois
No garys I set it on a trypod in the middle of the runway and my friend flew it 5 feet over the gun. If that didn,t work I know there has to be a reason the gun can,t see the plane.

RE: 424 Racing in Wisconsin / Illinois
I hate to tell you this Bud, the balsa/foam has nothing to do with the gun not picking up the plane.. One of the guys we race with up here has a fairly expensive gun that doesn't have any trouble picking up the quickies, composite or wood.. Sorry..

RE: 424 Racing in Wisconsin / Illinois
That is what is confusing me. I,m sure the expensive radar gun is much stronger than mine but it just dosn,t make sens to fly that close and not geting a reading. There has got to be a way to fool the cheep radar gun in to beleave the Q-500 is a big plane.
