Default old super tigers

OK here's a question for all you old guys.... This has nothing to do with racing but these engines were raced once a pon a time....
The old super tiger 40 ABC's with the blue heads, were they the G series or the S series? They look identical except one had a "G" on the side and one had a "S"on the side some times they both had blue heads, and the "S" had a silver head. I believe the "G" was sand cast and the "S" was machined. I was led to believe that the older "G" was better because the ports were sand casted and had better flow to them, is this true? The thing is I have a chance to get both, it's kind of a nostalgic thing..
