Here is our forecast for Saturday's race in Minnesota...
Saturday
Windy. Rain with scattered thunderstorms. Highs near 60. East winds 20 to 30 mph. Chance of rain 90 percent.
...sounds fun huh, think I'll leave the good stuff at home. What do ya say dave?

For this class, I don't plan on racing any good stuff
I got one of the original Racer IIs thats about 3 years old and a 3 midair surviver, and a scratched Q500 that I built last year out of scraps.
I don't think we'll get a chance to fly with all the rain in the forecast... I was planning on practicing up in Elk River tommorrow, but it looks like Jerry B and I will work on painting my Whiplash instead.

Randy has been making his own kits for a long time. He started with the R-140 back in the early 90's, they went great. I went through 5 or 6 of them. His airfoil is mentioned on mark hempple 's web site. Randy has since moved onto a glass fuse and a bagged wing of some kind.
His models go fast from all the hot air he provides

Luv to Race
The R-200 is the big brother to the R-140. It has a fiberglass fuse, tail and wing tips. Fuse is coke bottle style with carbon fiber reinforcement. Wing is foam and balsa vacuum bagged with seamless hinges. Will be making a composite wing after testing of 3 new airfoils. I would add picture if someone would teach me how?

things are improving
it's friday night here's the latest forecast..
Cloudy. A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms until mid-morning. Warmer with highs near 60. Southeast winds 10 to 15 mph.
Can't give up with a forecast like that. Time to charge batteries and get ready. Look out randy.

yes, there are winners
Mother nature allowed enough time for us to crown the first winners of the season..
I thinks it was Jerry B. first with Daven second.
Pat R. took standard class with my partner and astronaut, Kent h. taking second. Proving that orbiting the stratosphere can earn you points.
It was a cool, misty , cruddy kind of day with a 500 foot ceiling and a slight crosswind. Landings took as many victims as the racing did. But we got in 6 rounds of racing and chowed on pizza afterward. Thank you CD!
