RE: The Snaker
plane is done, fired it up tonight. My hope is to get a couple test flights on it tomorrow and bring it as my back up to the NCPL finale on Saturday.
Balanced right at 2 7/8" with no adjustments, weight was a little high at 3 lbs 13 1/2 oz, but the wing was a hair over 20 oz with servo so I don't feel too bad.
Should fly well, just a little worried about the wing being a bit twisted, we will see.

Couple finished pictures today, no luck on the test flight. Wind picked up strong out of the North and started raining, temp dropped 20 degrees in less than an hour.

RE: The Snaker
Got the test and final flight on the plane yesterday. Wing was worse than I expected, took every click of lift trim the radio had in it to stop rolling. Got on the course for a few laps and could have flown it in a heat right then, I thought I had a lot of elevator throw (nearly 1/4") and it was just about perfect how I like to make my turns. Plane started to run out of gas so I prepared for my landing as I was coming back from pylon #1.
Unfortunately another plane was dead stick and also preparing to land I ran into him. He was flat and level, and I was on knife edge. Our wings hit, shearing about a foot off each wing, causing each of us to crash. Wing is toast, the fuse took some damage, but is very fixable. Will have it back and ready in a couple hours with a new wing.

RE: The Snaker
I can build a composite wing for about the same cost as a viper wing, I just don't like doing it!
I have a couple composite wings coming from Mr. Etken to try out, as well as a couple new things to try out on my next set of fuses. Got to get the heater hung in the workshop, starting to get cold.
All and all, the fuze of the snaker came out pretty well, considering it went straight into a big pile of dirt, thankfully, loosely packed.

Here is a post incident pic.. Notice the dirt on the engine.. There was some excavation going on next to the field so the dirt was "soft".. It was sticking straight up like a lawn dart..

I was in Minneapolis on Saturday, and I can see where you'd want a heater in your shop.. I was chilly all day, but some of the locals (granted, college kids are immune to weather..) were wearing shorts, short skirts (not that I'm complaining)..
I guess they have a different definition of cold than I do!

RE: The Snaker
It was actually, nice racing weather, gentle breeze right out of the North. A couple layers and good to go, no gloves needed till the cold glass was in your hand at the end of the day.
