Q500 CG
I bought a used Q500 and don't know where to try the CG. It's a low wing with a V tail. What % of the cord is a good place to try on the 1st flight.

RE: Q500 CG
If the model is a legal Q500 the wing chord will measure somewhere about 9 1/2 t0 10 inches. If you gave never flown one of these before I would suggest setting the balance point at 2 1/2 from the LE. Adjust to suit as you fly it more.
I set mine at 3" from the LE. Now this is on the tail heavy side of the balance point. But this is my own airplane and I have flown a lot of them. By playing around with the balance point, far more can be achieved during the trimming process than altering Control surface throws/trims. It does however require a lot of trim flights and the capability of moving the stuff inside the fuselage (Tank and Battery) around. Ed S |
RE: Q500 CG
It kinda depends on the airfoil used, but Ed gives good advise. You will be safe in the 2 1/2" - 2 5/8" range.
Do you know the name of the Q500 kit? We could give you better advice if we knew that. |
