V-Vector any good?

I have one about half finished, and was wondering if it's worth finishing? They say "clocked at 208" What motor do you think it had to go that? I also have a couple of Vipers, would they be better for some 424 racing? If this is better for something like 428, I may throw it another member's way, he would be better suited for it. I also have some metal gear HS225's, I usually see nylon gears, any particular reason?

I haven't seen one fly in a long time, but from what I remember, it was a very smooth flyer and was fast.

Gravity was the motor, the F1 engine was just for sound effects. It was pointed straight down.

It should be fine for 424. Metal geared servos are not typically used because the nylon gears are tighter (less chance for surface flutter at high speeds), plus they are lighter.

I had a v-vector back in 99' and really liked how it flew. It was however, slightly overbuilt, and came out heavy for racing. As to the speed claim, it was rumored that it was a dive straight to terra firma, in actuallity, the plane was slower than many of its peers at the time. A great sport plane for speed, but didn't last long on the racing scene.

I too had a V-Vector back in '99 or '00--somewhere in there. I loved the way it flew. Very easy to fly and land. There are faster planes now but your question is "is it worth finishing?" I say, heck yes.

It's a good airplane however, that 208 mph speed claim is a bit ridiculous.

208mph straight down into the ground. Whooooo... that is better than what I can remember sex was like!

Don't discount it too much, it was probably the first laser cut, tab and slot quickee available. Everything fit pretty good, but the swept forward v-tail and linkage setup was not easy on a V-tail newbie like me at the time I built it.

I flew it at many local races until the front wing bolt plate came loose (still think it was from epoxy and the laser char). One of the locals is still using my wing in a club racer.

Very nice flying plane.
