Im running a lanier predator with a K&B 6.5 (40). i have a 10-6 going if i remember 15000 rpms, estimated 90-100 mph--how can i improve this? its fast--hard to get use to---but i want faster in the future.

change the prop to lower diam and more pitch, reinforce the plane´s nose, use radial mount, balance prop, bubbleless tank and review angles in the plane to avoid trimming (drag) and let the engine develop all the potencial

Prop

Suggestion! try using the APC 9x6 and follow everything else like Daniel Z says above :D

Another suggestion is to find out what the local Racers are using in your area,,, IE, engine and prop combo.

Do everything suggested above, than call Dave Shadel at Performance Specialties about using an ultra-thrust muffler. Not sure about the muffler fitting for the K&B, but he will tell you if one can be fitted or not. That will no doubt be your biggest gain

Sorry guys, I thought about it this morning and i forgot to add that I have a tuned pipe on it. The engine is also a rear exahust "sorry its not spelt right".
I have a home made alum. backplate engine mount. It stands off maybe about a half a inch to clear the pipe. Does anyone have any info on this engine as well?

Is this the front intake rear exhaust or the rear intake rear exhaust?

Dago Red, ummm, just how fast do you wanna go? There's a guy over there at the www.nmpra.org site who's selling some nelson stuff for a great price!

I am sorta at a loss now on what to suggest for your K&B 6.5 as I have no experience with this engine and its a weeeeeeee bit before my time when I entered Pylon Racing :D

I'm sure there's someone out there with K&B 6.5 F.I.R.E. engine time under their belt???

That engine will run well up to 19,000 but I wouldn't go much above that as the crankshafts use to break on those front intake engines at really high RPM (22,000). You might have to shorten that header to get the peak performance up at a higher RPM, it looks about right for the 10 x 6 you've got but that pipe isn't the best for 15,000 RPM. We ran that motor in our Calzona Q500 class for years, mostly set up by Clarence Lee and hopped up by Mike Del Ponte, and the RevUp 9 x 7 was popular but you had to thin it out a bit and many were twisting in more pitch to get 9 x 7.5 or so.

For better speed, you'll need more pitch, say an 8 x 8 or so, but you'll have to try a few different props to see what works best for that airplane, and again, I wouldn't spin it up too high for a sport setup as you'll only shorten the life of the engine.

Thanks for the advice guy--Ill have to get some of those props and try not to break 19000 RPM's.Id liek to go at least 130 + if i can. Im not sure what the predators top performance is, plus this plane isnt legal with the engine I have on it. Its only my first, practice plane.

Go fast but cheap

If you want to get a cheap but fast set up, get a Kanghe F3D/30 ARF. Around $135-$150. Glass fuse and wings painted in the mold. Not a real Q40, but for the price, its a blast. I practice with one with a NQ500 on it but even a sport .40 would be great.
