RE: Northern CA racing
Other than the North/South race in Medford, Oregon, most if not all of the racing is done in Southern Calif. You might find club races in your area.

RE: Northern CA racing
You're about a decade too late. There used to be races in Livermore, Tracy, Merced, Crow's Landing, Sunnyvale, Santa Clara, Sacramento, San Luis Opismo, Reno and two or three other places that I have forgotten the names of.

RE: Northern CA racing
Thanks Randy, those were the ones I couldn't remember. Most don't know it, but multiple airplane pylon racing was started in Northern California with the very first race at Turlock.
Oh, BTW, good luck next week. |
RE: Northern CA racing
Good times for sure. I came into racing towards the tail end of that, but I had two good years of TONS of racing. It sure cut down the learing curve time.
Next week will be tough as usual. But I'm going to keep my head down and feet moving... Thanks for the cheer, RB |
RE: Northern CA racing
There are AMA 424 and AMA 428 club races held at the Livermore flying field (EBRC). These races are casual in nature, however they will give you (and your caller) some on course practice. Turn lights and cut judges at pylon 1 are utilized and typically the starter will clip ya for a blatant cut at 2 or 3. No heat by heat points are kept, just bragging rights. Go to the EBRC website for the latest dates. Typically these are held the weekend prior to a LA or Medford race so us traveling folks can shake some cobwebs off. The 424 stuff does take priority over 428. Thus if they have a good 424 turnout, 428 may not be flown. New racers alway welcome.

RE: Northern CA racing
Thanks for all the replys. Livermore is about an hour away from me. Would I have to become a member to fly? I have flown for probably 20yrs but have never done any pylon racing. Are the guys that fly open to greenhorns?

RE: Northern CA racing
Saturday August 12 1:00 PM is the next 424/428 race at Livermore. Don't need to be a club member, but should be a AMA member. New racers are ALWAYS welcome. This is a fun/great group of guys who will bend over backwaeds to help ya out. Come on down.
