Winter projects

The Q-500 board is a bit slow this time of year- lets post our winter projects.

Here are my first two, another of each will be done before Spring.

Seeker w/ a TT 40 for 424. The color doesn't show true as it was so bright out but it is neon lime green...reminds me of the Kawasaki motocross bikes I used to race, and I figure Daven would appreciate some green on a Seeker.

Hurrikane w/ an OS 40FP for our club slow quickie series (2 pole). We fly 424 rules except the only legal engines are the 40LA or FP.

The Seeker was right at 3 lbs 8 oz, the Hurrikane 3 lbs 7 oz. I hate to add weight but such is life; I'll replace the Hitec 555 receivers with JR 770 PCM receivers, and replace the 350 mAh rx batteries with std 700 mAh and see if that adds enough weight...

Very nice work!! Looks like the Kaw did not spit you off on your head to many times. I quit racing mc at age 55 after finally winning the expert class at Mammouth, and guess you have never heard of the Mammouth old timmers world championships in California each June. We start out with around 500 wanna bees and then weed out the smart guys and leave the last for the very crazy. 50 guys on the line makes the first turn nasty, better get there in the first 5 or so, or its back in the pack bad time. I digress, good looking birds, hope they fly as well as they look. ENJOY

Excellent looking planes, very nice job!

My winter/spring/summer project is moving my workshop 350 miles and getting reorginized. The mini-seeker and vortex kit will have to wait.

Give us a flight report after you fly them.

man you guys got alot of snow up there. Your birds look beautiful. I have spent the past few nights rebeulding a GP Viper that got destroyd last year when the wing decided it did not want to be on the plane anymore during flight. It was my falt. I cut away to much wood at F-1 trying to get a CG tank in her. Wont make that mistake again. ;)

Thanks guys, I'll post flight report updates and photos of the next two as I get them covered.

We can't complain about snow this year, 2 weeks ago we got 18" but that has been it except for a dusting every so often. We can fly in April and start racing in May so not much longer.

remenke- I recall reading about Mammouth in the MX mags. I quit racing at 28 and a few years back quit dirt bikes as crashes I laughed at in my 20's were breaking bones and hurting in my 40's...I know, not supposed to crash but I have always found my limits by exceeding them, same with Quickies ;)

Looks great porkchop! The checks have been very popular on Bruces wings the past year.

Imagine that, a 12 pack of budlight in the picture.

Where's Budman?

Well I did not break anything last year. Clearing out my basement I came across an old "Electrifly Cub Kit". I am now building it. Honestly!

DMUCOP your work area looks alot like mine. Over the years we seem to turn into packrats. My uncle once told me that he wouldn,t through anything away because you never know when you might need somthing. Oh well its allmost time for some spring cleaning. ;)

I clean up every couple of weeks... I should have my 2nd hurricane done tomorrow! It will then be a few weeks before I get to fly due to an inner eye problem...

Dave the bud light box is part of my filing system and they are so classy...

I also have a couple of last years racers for sale they would be great for a new person...

Here is my winter project It was named by DAVEN He calls it the " HAULER SS " The ss stands for Spread Spectrum I don't put those fancy paint jobs If you get hit by a $110 Viper ARF then you don't feel as bad since the is only the min of time spent on painting

daven 03-03-2007 03:33 PM

RE: Winter projects

Close, Al, I actually called it the Hauler SS, for "S**t Stain" , but your close :)

Dan, you do have WAY too much time. Is that wig part of your "hooker" outfit when your out with the Vice Squad?

Well, it wasn't really a winter project but with the weather the last couple weeks it might as well be.. This is a Seeker I did for our local 428 races.. It's all wood except the tail which is from a mold I made.. I used it to try my hand at the checkers.. It looks a lot better in the pictures than it really does.. Oh well, it still needs some clear but I was hoping it would warm up this week..

fine looking steed, I wish many left hand turns upon you.

I'm gonna pass on 428 this year, just bash 422 models.

I hope the airport will be available this summer, dude!
