RE: engines
Jim,
So if I have 4 engines shipped from Tower directly to you, will the ST GS-40 be considered? I'm just trying to make the process quick and easy. Hobbico might take a few weeks, and I could make it happen now. Part of the reason is that I would like to be able to use the ST GS-40 for the Club 40 Novice class, and we want the Club 40 guys to be able to use their engines on 424 planes when they move into 424. In other words we want 424 to benefit from Club 40, and we want a little engine selection for Club 40 while saying that 424 engines are legal for Club 40 Gold class. If I can have the ST GS-40 engines shipped to you, send me a private message or email via RCU with your shipping address. I also have something else I want to ship to you. |
RE: engines
Jim;
Thank you so much for your well thought-out letter to us. Your clear calm explanations answered my questions and cleared-up my mis-conceptions. There is a lot more to all this than I could have possibly thought. I, for one, am satisfied. By the way, I completely agree with your philosophy of selecting engines for 424. I appreciate your efforts on our behalf. Thanks again. Doug Bebensee |

This may help some of you. This is a snapshot of the By Laws sent with the sanction package. The complete PDF document will be made available when I get time to work on it on the NMPRA website.
My thanks to Scott Smith for Emailing it to me. Stan D. |
RE: engines
Is there any truth to the rumblings about the TT40Pro going away? (I hear that there is not that great a demand for 40 size engines and that is why OS is discontinuing the 40LA.) If so, it would be wise to have something in testing or on the sheet for just such a case. I was taught, when growing up, to never put all your eggs in just one basket. Trying to support a manufacturer who has no particular loyalty to anyone except the shareholders and the bottom line will get you a blackeye in a hurry. Just my two cents.

Thanks Stan for publishing the documents. I had never seen them .

RE: engines
Well here's my thing with this, we only have one engine. Plus I have now been on both sides of the legal engine fence. I have 2 planes one with a Rossi 40 (stock) and one with an os32 on a Jett pipe. I have been told by some to "Come on out and play, if you beat us you'll have to get a TT." The other side was "Don't even show up!" So it's a mixed bag, I have a Pred 1 that I got in a garage sale for $60, a Rossi from Ebay for $40, and garage sale servos and stuff. Now its not junk BUT it's not top of the line either, and a $40 used motor sounds better that a $90 new one. I also like the part about a "$120 street price" well you can but Rossi 40's all day long for less that $75 off the net, I guess that the going street price, right?
I know that I opened a can of worms here, but I'd say it's time to catch up with the times, .40 size engine are all but gone, with a few hold outs. 46's are what's in right now, SO why don't we look at that size for the future. OS, TT, ST, EVO all have great 45-46 size engines that will run right along side each other, and less that $150 retail, street $120. The 428, 422 guys can stay wuth the 40 size those engines are so powerful now it's insane, plus how many of us already have an OS ax46, or an EVO looking for an airplane? |
RE: engines
Hey Scott. Thank you for the Engine Committee document. Where can I find that? I have been involved in many sanctioned 424 races and have never seen that document before. >T
