Servo reversing
When a servo is reversed on a Futaba radio, where does the reversing actually take place; inthe servo, in the receiver,in the transmitter, or a combination of them?

RE: Servo reversing
The reason for the question is that after installing my rudder servo and steering servo in my TF P-47 I discovered that they operate in opposing directions when connected to the receiver with a Y-harness,that is to say that the rudder and tail wheel work opposite to each other(the servos operate in the same direction). I was hoping I could reverse one of the servos to correct the problem. Apparently that isn't going to happen, so is there a way to mix the two servos on seperate channels so that I can reverse just one of them.

RE: Servo reversing
It sounds like you're using serparate servos for the rudder and nosewheel. Is there a reason you can't use just one servo to operate both? If for some reason you are forced to use two servos, use a reversing y connector to solve your problem.

RE: Servo reversing
Yes Jollypopper, I am using seperate servos for the rudder(which is push rod driven) and the tail wheel(which is pull-pull cable driven). I have never heard of a servo reversing Y-harness. Who makes such an animal?

RE: Servo reversing
Move the servo arm to the opposite side of the serco on the rudder... if things will line up.

RE: Servo reversing
Yep like lern2fly said just swap the servo arm on the rudder.
If you don't have room to do so you can set up the two servos on an always on mix on two different channels, if your tx has the capabilities and your rx has an open socket.

RE: Servo reversing
If you don't haqve a radio that can do it or you can't reverse the linkage then you can buy a servo reverser or a servero reversing Y. I'm setting up a plane with a VERY old 7 ch radio and I installed two elevator sorvos thinking the fellow I'm building the plane for had the same radio as I do. WRONG. There were no reversing Ys at the hobby shop so I bought just the reverser and used a standard Y. It worked, I don't like Ys but in some cases you haven't any choice how you do things.

RE: Servo reversing
Is there any possibility of you posting pictures of the servo bay with rods attached? Maybe if we could see the setup somebody might have a quick cure other than the ones already offered.

RE: Servo reversing
Replace one of your Futaba servos with a similar sized Hi-Tec servo. Hi-Tec and Futaba servos rotate in opposite directions given the same input. Richard

RE: Servo reversing
Thanks for all the input. As it turns out, last night when I was preparing to take some pictures of my servo installation, I realized that I had enough room to move the rudder servo over so that the servo arm would rotate from the other side of the servo; thus correcting my problem. Thanks again!

RE: Servo reversing
For any others that have a need to reverse a servos rotation, you should be able to change wiring inside the servo. You will need to be able to solder. I believe all you need to do is swap the two outer wires on the potentiometer and swap the two wires driving the servo motor. If memory serves right, I think you can also order a reversed servo from Servo City (might be worth a phone call).

RE: Servo reversing
I like RDonovan's idea. I have interchanged Futaba and Hitec servos for years and never realized they operated in opposite directions with the same input. I just reversed direction in the transmitter if they were wrong. Now I'll have to try and see if I can remember that little tidbit of information for more than 37 minutes or so.
