Default Removing old silk and dope covering

I have an old Aeromaster built some 20+yrs ago which has been in storage in need of re-furb to get the old bird flying again. It was covered with silk and dope then painted. I've started stripping it back to bare bones the wings went quickly, but the fuselage and tail are slow going. Anyone have a good method of removing the old covering? I've been using a heat gun which seems to help, but its slow going.

You can try wetting with laquer thinner, peeling as you wet. This should soften up the dope.

I'll second the lacquer thinner method, with one caution. It can soften glue joints made with traditional model airplane cement, so rotate your work through different sections to let the joints harden up again.

Thanks for the replies I'll give lacquer thinner a try.

After applying the lacquer thinner, I wrap in plastic so it has a chance to soak in before it dries.
