Angry with saito 100!
Hello. I have a saito 100, and the engine is driving me crazy. I sent it in to get new bearings, and the guy who worked on it made some other adjustments also. He said he ran it and it ran fine, and I used the engine for the rest of the season.
I took the engine off, and mounted it to another airplane, not touching the needle settings. Its mounted sideways with a slimline pitts muffler. Now I go to run the engine and I have these problems:
1) Won't get max RPM unless 3 turns out (Was getting max at 2.25 turns out last year) (14x8 prop and 860 ft elevation)
2) Wheni bring the throttle from High to low speed, the engine RPM stays up for a few seconds before coming down to full idle
3) The engine runs no different at 5 turns out on high speed as it does 3 turns out, its not running any richer or anything.
I just had the engine sent it, and now its acting up again!
Anyone have anyidea what could be the potential problem ( besides the guy tuning it)
Thanks
Jason

Check your valve clearance. Your exhaust valve is not closing or is stuck in the open position. 1. needle valve 3 turns out= Extreme amount of fuel needed to keep engine running because it is being blown out raw through the open exhaust valve .port2. Throttle high to low= takes awhile for all the excess unnecessary raw fuel to burn off. 3 . five turns or three= There is no "fine adjustment" for your needle valvewith an open valve just raw fuel flow. The valve clearance for the 100 should be a snug .0004 Good luck . Don't give up buddy these are great little engines but need pretty regular valve clearance checks. Larry

Before you go tearing it apart make sure you do not have some kind of restriction in the fuel suppy. If something is restricting the fuel flow it will do just what you are describing. Would have been easy for something to have been in the new set up and now is in the fuel passage way of your carb.
