I know I read ir somewhere on RCU and I should have remembered it BUT I didn't.
There is a product/products that you apply to the balsa before glassing to keep the epoxy from soaking into the wood. Help me out here please.

Isayy just scrape off all the excess.... that is usually sufficient. You want some bite into the wood so the cloth and wood become one. You;ll be adding some weight with whatever your sealing with anyway right though I'm sure not as much as having the wood untreated.

I use deft sanding lacquer and 1/2 ounce or 3/4 ounce cloth. If you watch the paint it comes out just a bit heavier then covering. My last build was a 1/4 scale Sukhoi with an 80 inch span, not a small plane. Weight of glassing was one pound. On this build I used latex paint so it too added close to a pound of weight. Very easy way to glass but it does stink!! Must be done in an open area.

Mike, the hart thing is a bunch better, the back is still out and I can't sit or stand very long. Next week they are going to see if they can do anything about the back. Tomorrow I will find out if I can get my lap top working so I can sit in the recliner and operate it?
You may rmember the Suk. build. It was a fun one and I enjoy glassing a sheeted plane. Still learning how to paint. Wish I could use Klass Kote on them all! {MONEY!!} As soon as I can get my back working again I have a couple of planes ready to be built. Right now I can't sit or stand over the building board but the rest of me is ready to start slathering glue!! It will either be a few of the Swoose sea planes, 3 at one build or the Ultrasport 1000. The Swoose planes will get glassed and painted, the US at this point??? I just haven't decided if I will sheet the complete plane or not.
I really do like glassing and painting though!!

I'm doing a pylon racer, all glassed with 3/4 oz cloth and Zpoxy. Paint is limited to just a couple of stripes on the wing and no primer. I'm hoping to do it as light as film (that's a tad under 2 oz) but we'll have to wait and see.
