Default What Happened To Model Magic by Dave Patrick?

Does anyone know where to by Model Magic filler? It was always the best - first by Carl Goldberg then Dave Patrick. My hobby shop and web search couldn't locate it. Calls to Dave Patrick only got their answering machine.
I know I can get other brands but the don't come close.
If anyone knows where I can buy some - prefer the 'balsa" color please let me know.
Thanks,
Howard

Default Model Magic

As far as I know Model Magic is not available anymore. I asked them (Dave Patrick) about it two years ago at the Toledo Show and they said the machine was broken. I don't think they ever got it fixed. It was the best stuff I ever dame across.

I have had good success with Red Devil light weight filler. Been using it for years. It's fine like micro bubbles and dries hard enough to sand and feathers nicely and doesn't just ball up. There are other knock offs but I think Red Devil is the best. Also much cheaper than hobby shop products.

Can you tint the Red Devil filler? Anybody do this successfully, and what did you use to tint it?

I also have been using Red Devil light weight filler for years now and see no difference in it and Dave Patricks filler.

Never tried to tint it but don't see why you couldn't. Just don't get it to wet. The reason it doesn't shrink and crack and is so light is its lack of water content.

Default Model Magic Filler

Before Goldberg and Dave Patrick had their filler I used to tint some spackling compound. Used a dark brown Rit dye. Forget the color number. Mix some in water and then add a small amount to a can of the Red Devil. Don't add too much as only a little will tint it.

I've been using a product called NHP Micro-Fill (Northeast Hobby Products) available from Tower. I swear its the same product as DP Model Magic filler.

This stuff (Model Magic, spackle, etc.) is nothing more than baking soda and water.

I too have been using the dollar-ninety-five tub of spackle instead of the $6.99 jar of "Model magic" for years. Never tried tinting it, though; sounds like a neat idea...

I tint my spackle by adding a few drops from a tea bag - works great.

Hi Guys:
I am also looking for some "Model Magic" by Dave Patrick....Great Stuff.....I tried the "RED DEVIL" Lightweight Spackling -"OneTime" as it says on the can...Is this the same stuff as you(all) are describing above????? If it is....man it does'nt even come close ...too Model Magic.! I am using MM to seal the surface on some close celled foam....works really well and it gets HARD when finally dry...and weighs next too nothing...very important...for us indoor electric R/C guys....
Is Dave Patrick still in the Milford, Il area????
Sincerely,
Jon B. Shereshaw
NJ. U
