HEAD REPAIR
I have an engine that I have managed to strip the glow plug threads. Does anyone know where I can get this repaired. Repairing it myself is not an option. I recall reading once of a man in southern california that does this kind of work.. Anyone? Thanks It is my first engine I ever bought (a Como 40) w/only about 20 hours on it. I do not want to toss it. It runs sweet. Joe

RE: HEAD REPAIR
You could just buy a new head , I am not sure what the differance in cost would be but it might not be much..I would sooner have a new one than one with a heli coil in it....I could be way wrong on this though....

Yup if I remember correctly he is in Sunland, Ca. Has an add in classified adds of every issue of Model Aviation. Have used his service in years past and it is excellent. Keep in mind that the price is considerably less than a new head but keep in mind that is only if you send him a stripped head that requires no additional dissassembly.

RE: HEAD REPAIR
A repaired head has a stainless heli coil, so a user would be hard pressed to strip out the glow plug again. A new head has aluminum threads in it, hence the need for the professional services of Mr. Lee in the first place.

RE: HEAD REPAIR
The first rule is NOT to overtighten the glow plugs.........it is just a very short wrench handle to be used in tightening the glow plug and then just use your thumb and one pointy finger to tighten. If you use your whole hand to tighten the glow plug..........it is already overtightened and eventually will wear out the aluminum thread. 'Nuff said.
