Default Nitrate dope clean up?

Besides the expensive nitrate dope thinner, what substitutes can I use to clean up my brushes with?

The laquer thinner works okay but, when done with that, use some hot soapy water to wash the thinner out of the brush. It is surprising how well hot soapy water works to clean most things.
