discovered that I put the decals in the wrong place on my warbird
is there an easy way to remove the decals without messing up the covering

Assuming you're talking about iron on covering like Monokote ot Ultracote and stick on decals??,, some warmth from a heat gun can loosen up the adhesive making them easier to peal off,, likely you'll need new decals either way.
