Default Can you hang a 12 lb plane by its tail against the wall?

I have a chance to sell something that will give me the money to
get a gasser.

I wont try to fly it untill my instructor gives me the go ahead.

I will have to hang it on the wall or its a no go, no other room.

Is the tail strong enough for this?

Aero Works Edge 540 10 to 12 lbs.

Jimmy

If you run it on the ground at full throttle, standing with your legs holding the plane by the stab, it would pull about the same as hanging on the wall. I would not want to bump into the plane on the wall or bonk it around much. The wing would be off too, right? It is your discretion.

Wings would probably be on the plane, for space consideration.

I store my smaller planes like this, I didn't know about the heavier ones.

Thanks Jimmy

Myself, I would remove the wings. The less weight on the stabilizer the better.

How about standing it on its nose on the floor. Put some thick foam under the engine shaft or spinner.

I hang most of my planes by the tail. I use 1" PVC pipe to make the rack, put the foam insulation on it then hang away. I do take the wings off and put them on a rack of their own.

Buzz.

I agree. You run it up on the ground at full throttle, being an aerobatic/3D machine, will almost definately produce way more than the 10-12 lbs that the plane weighs. Go for it. These models are stronger than youd think.

You could always have a rope that runs down to the landing gear and up to the tail hook to take some load of the tail. The one thing to REMEMBER though is when you are hanging the plane this way you are training the fuel tank clunk to be forward and up in the tank....

Thats the one bad thing about storing a plane on the nose.

It'll be fine. The only concern would be your hanger marking the tail. If you'll wrap some pipe insulation around the hanger, that will be taken care of too.

If your clunk can fall to the front of the tank by simply pointing the airplane down you are using the wrong tubing.
