Just guessing, but I'd put the tape on the depron, and then paint. If you paint first, your hinge would be bound to the paint, and not the depron. You would then be depending on the paint's bond to the surface, instead of a bond to the surface itself.

By the way, Maxwell, I lived in Marion until 1985, when I moved here for a job.

The foamies I have painted, were after I had the tape hing all done. The tape took the paint better than the foam, so it was a touch shinier than the bare foam. Other than that, it works well.

To get the tape to adhere to the depron, you need to seal the depron. Most of the time we just rub a coat of glue onto the depron where the tape goes, let the glue dry, then apply the tape. The paint would probably do the same thing.

Paint first then hinge.

How are you going to paint ? It is easy to add lots of weight. I used a cheap airbrush and just misted on some waterbased acrylic.

Tiny amount of epoxy to give a good grip for the tape helps.

Keep it light they fly better that way.
