Default big stik 40 underpowered?

Hi,
I just finished a Great Planes Big Stik 40 with a Megatech .46 engine. The engine set up great and I broke it in according to the book. I'm taking off from a grass runway which is very long (about 75 yards) but it takes the whole field to get the plane in the air. I'm using the 2.5 inch wheels that came with the plane. Do I need a bigger engine, bigger wheels, bigger field, or something else. Is this normal for grass? (I've always flown from an asphault runway)

Hi,
You could try several different options: larger tires, smaller pitch prop. I would go with the larger tire first. Maybe a 3" - 3.5" tire would work. I fly with a TT 46 PRO, and use a 3" wheel. I also use an 11/4 prop vs a 10/6 or a 10/7.
Just trial and error.

Happy Flying!

I flew the same plane with an OS 40FP for years. I am not familiar with your engine, but it should have way more power than the 40FP. Check your incidence or use a little more nitro. A .46 of any kind should fly that plane nice. It's a fantastic plane. I got 1000 flights out of my first one. Should be fun.

I'm very curious for my own future knowledge what prop you are using?

Try a 11x4 or 11x5 prop first and see how you like that (I believe it will suffice). If its still not good enough, go with 3" wheels.
