Breaking in an OS46FX
I saw a post the other day from someone warning not to 4 cycle break-in the OS46FX as the manual says to do.
Should this engine be broken in by high RPM heat shorter duration heating cycles like an ABC?
Got two new ones that I need to get broken in on the bench but want to make sure I do it right.....
So what gives?
Thanks in advance for your help

I broke mine in per the instructions and it works great. I just mounted it to the plane and did one tankful per instructions then flew it a little rich for a while. I don't think you can hurt it. Great engine.

Put mine in the plane, ran it very rich once. Let it cool, ran it again, but went from rich to leaner back to rick getting leaner longer each time. Flew it 4-5 clicks rich, never had a dead stick.

RE: Breaking in an OS46FX
In theory, you should do it like the ABC instructions, for some reason OS hasn't changed their break in instructions in years.
However, in the real world, it doesn't much matter unless you are trying to get every last RPM out of the engine. You won't kill the engine with a little rich running, and you won't kill it if you go the ABC route.

RE: Breaking in an OS46FX
Well, I mounted the 1st one on the engine stand and ran almost a 1/2 gallon through it this afternoon.
4 cycled it for the 1st tank, leaned it up a bit for the 2nd tank, and for the 3rd tank went back and forth with the mixture sometimes leaning it out and letting it rip and then backing it back down and 4 cycling it.
4th and 5th tank leaned it up a bit and varied the throttle position. By 6th and 7th tank that baby would idle clean for over 15 minutes then snap to attention and scream.
It is ready for the new Pacific Aeromodel Edge that ought to be here tomorrow or Monday!!!!
Got one more to do for the AeroWorks Edge that will be here in a couple of weeks!!!

RE: Breaking in an OS46FX
DBCherry,
I am going to have to take a pass on the direct comparison for this next engine as I am actually interested in the direct comparison of the Aeroworks 40 size edge and the Pacific Aeromodel 40 size edge and I want all things to be equal when I get them together and fly them.
Crazy as this may sound it all stems from the fact that I couldn't decide which one I wanted and couldn't seem to get an answer from anyone here as to the quality of Pacific's products. So I bought both, the Aeroworks and the Pacific 40 size edges.
All in the name of research and comparison of course....he he
