A good place to start is to put the CG on the spar with the fuel tank empty and the retracts retracted. It may help to balance it inverted... You can then fine tune the CG with flight testing...

flyboyp40,
I've scanned part of the plans for the US 60 which will show you the exact center of gravity for this plane. image is too large to post on here. if you will pm me with your email address I will send you the image.

I seem to remember it being about 1/2" BEHIND the spar.

Ken, can't you just resize the pic?

MinnFlyer,
I could resize it I guess. I originally scanned the plans from the spinner all the way back to the trailing edge and then saved it as a pdf (to ensure that he would be able to open it). Let me work on it and see if I can get the image down small enough to post here and still be able to see the detail.

Looks like the back edge of the spar is in the center of the CG range...

The airfoil is kinda strange...much thicker than I would have imagined...never owned any of the U.S. series...hope I didn't miss something good.[]

Boss248,
you definately did miss something good. Been flying for 7 years and this is by far the best overall flying plane that I have ever seen. I have the 60 size plane. The 60 and 1000 sized planes have been discontinued. Ater I build my 1st Ultra sport I went hunting to find more of these kits so I could hide them in my closet in case the one I'm flying now dies. I have 2 60 sized and 1 1000 size Ultra Sport waiting.

If you can find an US, you will be doing yourself a huge favor by picking it up.

There are and have been several flying at the home field but for some reason I kinda thought it was a Caos on Viagra and I had a bunch of Caos's. It's kinda funny but I am getting ready to build an 80" Caos from plans I have drawn up...seems like I revert back to my early years every now and then. There is a collector at our club and he buys every kit that comes along but the tight a## won't cut loose with a single kit...we have threatened to get him drunk and raid his stash He even has a bunch of the old Pilot kits and he even has a Pilot 1/4 sc. Tiger Moth. I will keep my eye open for a U.S. .60...didn't they also have a .90 U.S.???

You are thinking of the Super Sportster series. They made a bunch of those(.20 .40 .60 .90/1.20 .40bipe).
The US only had the .40 .60 and 1000. The .60 is a great plane. I finally retired mine after 7 years of hard flying. It was a blast with a ST .75.

RCKen, You are correct sir! I have flown the .40, .60, and 1000 size Ultrasports........... And they are great! I currently have a .60 size with 2 wings. One with retracts, and one with fixed gear. You can really perform many manuvers with this airplane. I won my first pattern contest with this plane. I have an O.S. 60 gold head with a pipe on mine. It hand launches great. That should speak to the airfoil, overall design and weight of this airplane. Maybe someday they will bring it like they did with the Nobler. Time will tell.

BTW, the older .40 size ARF kits were junk, and did not truly represent the kitted Ultrasport.
