The O.S. .60 sr has two basic versions, the RSR and the FSR. As far as I know, the difference was where the carb was. The FSR had the carb on front, hence the "F" and the RSR had the carb of the rear: "RSR".
If yours has the carb on front, you have a FSR.

Fritch1969--If that is an SR, either front or rear carb, you are a lucky man. Many folks argue that the SR's were one of the most powerful and best running lines of engines ever produced by anyone. You will enjoy that one.

RE: os max 60 sr
Hi;Can I tag on top this one?Have an SR and wonder what prop to use on it.Just lacks power but have the carb set up off a 46FX on it possibly not big enough but fits OK.HAd 13/6 wasn't pulling went to 12/6 but can't pull the plane have it in a Hog Bipe finally decided it just can't do it plane seems very heavy but haven't weighed it..Had a Mag 91 4 stroke and it did OK not real good either.Took that out for my Waco 60 and put the 60SR in.HAd it in a tiger 60 and did pretty good maybe just expecting to much from it.

Fritch,
Tower still sells the muffler for that engine. Not cheap, but they do have it: http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXCB96&P=0 The .60 and .61 fsr take the same muffler, I have both engines.
One caution, make sure it is the #744 muffler, not the 744B one.

Fritch:
Responded to your post earlier because I have direct knowledge of the engine you have. I have one that I bought new in 1974. I still have the stock muffler that came with it and it has never had any exhaust run through it. What do you have to trade for it?

RE: os max 60 sr
Hi, Jolly Popper
This must be a sort of deja vu thing for you, but while looking thru RCU for info on the OS Max 60SR, I came across your notes of a few years ago. As luck would have it, I picked up a pristine, never run, OS 60 SR with muffler...but no manual. If you have a copy you'd care to sell or if you know where I can get one, I'd greatly appreciate it.
If not, then perhaps you might share a bit of info with me:
1) the short crankshaft protrudes about 1/8" beyond the thrust washer so that when the stud (propshaft) is in place, there is a step. I can't believe we are supposed to ream a step in the prop. So what am I missing?
2) do you know if this engine may be set up to counter rotate?
Thanks for any knowledge you can provide

Skyflyer,
The little step on the crankshaft is the same diameter as the threaded portion so there is no need to ream the prop.
The FSR can be made to run in reverse by remounting the front housing. If you are looking at the engine from the front the carb will be in the 12 o'clock position. Unbolt the shaft housing and rotate it so the carb is at the 9 o'clock position. Engine will now run in reverse. You will have to use a pusher prop if the engine is mounted as a tractor.

RE: os max 60 sr
Chuck...Thanks a lot for the info! I was hoping she would counter rotate. Knowing that, I will remove the ad I posted to sell it. As to the shaft, the outside diameter on my shaft stud is virtually the same for the full length as the thread diameter, so there is a very definite step. I wonder if they had a threaded collar to go over it toward the back? But that would be halfassed and I can't believe OS would do something like that. Just for kicks, please take a look at the pic of mine (item#222824) before I remove the ad
