Default where to put the servo cables in the wing?

I'm building a wing with one aileron servo in each half. Where should I put the cables? The manual suggests drilling a hole in each rib, but these holes would have to be rather big to get the Futaba connectors through. Would it be better to cut a notch for the cable in the bottom of each rib?

What would YOU do?

Stack the ribs and drill with a piece of brass tube yo have cut teeth into with a dremel. (super-deep hole saw) A commin drill bit will shatter the ribs.

The large hole is not a problem at all. You can cut out 60% of the inside of the rib if you plan it properly.

Roll paper to make a tube to go in the holes... this wil be a HUGE help if you have to take the servo out and put a replacement one in.

Drill a hole. Since the hole is in the middle of the wing section, it will hardly effect the strength of the wing at all

Take the idea have for cutting a notch in the rib, write it on a sheet of paper and burn it until there is no trace of it's existence in the world. Why so harsh?? Think of a joist in house construction, anytime the plumber or electrician has to cross through a joist, they go to the middle of the joist because that is going to affect the structural integrity less. If you cut a notch in the bottom of the rib, that will give a weekspot in the ribs and will almost insure that your plane will be destroyed on the first flight.

Beard has a good point. Besides, most kits have big openings in the center of the ribs anyway.

It's the standard way to do it. And don't worry about the size of the holes. Make them at least 3 times as big as the plug (Or only twice as big if you use the paper tube method)

All right, all right, I'll make the holes!

Thanks!

Pick up some model rocket tubes at the local hobby shop and glue them in the holes to make a tubular passage for your servo wires. Makes it so simple. Also they weigh almost nothing.
