It would be overpowered with the .80.
I flew mine competitively with an OS 60 FP, not the world's most powerful .60, but more than adequate.

RE: Goldberg tiger II
I am surprised they would recommend an 80 4 stroke for the 40 sized plane. Even the 60 sized Tiger recommends up to an 80 4 stroke. I have a Tiger II with a TT Pro .46 in it, which performs nicely. If I was to put a 4 stroke in it, I think a Saito .72 would be the maximum I would use. The .80 weighs much more than the .72. If you have the Tiger 60, it will gladly take up to a .91 4 stroke.

Hey jetlag1
It all depends on how fast you wanna go. I don't think the Saito 80 is any heavier than the OS70 FS on my TigerII (kit plane). Mine flies very well with that engine and is plenty fast. I don't think the .80 will be too much, but you may want to reinforce the firewall to make sure - that's what I did. If you do go with the .80, you're gonna have to hold on to your panties at full throttle.

RE: Goldberg tiger II
I flew my Tiger 60 with a Saito .91 and she behaved like a real classy lady. It is VERY easy to control, and not real fast. After all, her design is a low wing trainer, and that is exactly what she is. My personal opinion is that the extra power did nothing for her. She didn't go any faster or perform any stronger vertically than if it would've had the .72 on the nose. It was just cool to have the big engine!(I wonder if my 1.00 would do any better having MORE POWER and being lighter and all..?)
