Default Firewall fell off. How do you reglue?

The firewall on my old Stick let go today. How do you prep wood that has been exposed to oil to take fresh epoxy?

Wouldn't it be much simpler to make a new firewall?

Default firewall

Yes, a new firewall will be used, but the fuse sides will be the same.
What about Balsrite?

I guess the rivers must be down if you were out flying today...

Ya know -- this is kinda funny as the firewall in my US 40 let go last Friday. There must be gremlins at the field...

Mine broke out cleanly and I didn't have much repair to do. I did add some triangle stock to the back before epoxying it back in. The BARF glue was very sticky and soft and I scraped it all off.

I think that a good coating of BalsaRite will help the surface to better prepare the surface for expoxy. If there is a lot of oil you can use K2R to get a lot of it off before sealing with BalsaRite. If you need either of these let me know and I'll bring them to the field next time we fly...

Something that works well is a product calles K2R Spot Remover. Spray it on, let it dry and it will draw out the oil. Then, brush it off. Several applications may be needed.
