Camouflage painting...need help
Hi,
I'm in the process of finishing a .40 size Focke Wulf 190. I'd like to paint it with a camouflage finish. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to apply a camouflage finish?
Thanks,
Anthony

RE: Camouflage painting...need help
HI there,
A butcher bird had to be camouflaged. Period!
You have a few questions you need to ask before start...: choose a scheme ( there is a nice one flown by Priller, with a stylized eacle where the exhaust pipes of the real thing are located, the 1 yellow. for exemple).
A .40 size model can be painted with an airbrush. Do you have an airbrush?
If not, you may consider cans, it can work, but it is more complex.
First, when all the surfaces are prepared and sanded, a litle primer( you can find a primer that is light gray, close to the base colour of the plane)
Then, shoot the colours you need, stating with the lightest color, more than likely the bottom of the bird. Mask where the base color will be the final colour, and go on to say your camo pattern.
You may want a soft edge, for that you raise the masking tape a couple of mm with cardboard or string glued on the edge. This will feather the edge.
Then comes the mottling, for what the germans where famous. If you have an airbrush, easy to do freehand
if yu use cans, I suggest you punch a few holes the right size on a cardboard you apply a few millimeters above the surface and spray on it. It will give you the same efect. Use variations in your pattern, so all the spots are not the same
For the markings, use decals or paint it
The best source of colour that are accurate is plastic model paints, but need to fuelproof after
Take the time to let it dry before using tape and you will be rewarded with a nice finish
Good luck
Al
