Ultracote material makeup?
Would anyone know what type of plastic makeup is Ultracote?
The reason why I ask is, we cannot cut specific plastics with our laser. This can result in toxic or harmful fumes. This doesn't bother us too much with the powerful exhaust and scrubbers. But what is a real problem, is some plastics will produce a super concentrated acid cloud that will eat all the belts and wires in the laser.
So before we go cutting fancy letters and patterns with the laser, we need to know what Ultracote's base material is.
And the problem with that is, Ultracote is supplied the actual material from a German source... and doesn't make it themselves. [&o]

This probably isn't specific enough for your purposes, but I just grabbed the insert that comes with a roll of the stuff... says it's "... polyester covering..."

The plastic is a heat shrinkable polyester, as CP140 said. It seems to me that the problems might come in with the adhesive. I have never seen anything that gives that information. As MinnFlyer implied, you might be wise to contact Oracover with your question. http://www.oracover.de/xml/frames.xm...ml?node_id=246

Just bought a roll of Hanger 9 Ultracote fiery red. However, the instruction sheet calls it Oracover Hellrot.
Are Ultracote and Oracover one and the same product?

RE: Ultracote material makeup?
Hi Bob,
Thanks for your fast response! Reason I posed this question was that I am building a TufFlight 4D model and the instructions specify Ultracote for covering and include a warning not to substitute any other heat shrink plastic covering as it would not permit a solid bond to the base material. I specifically bought Ultracote for this application and when I exposed the covering roll, it did have Oracover on the backing paper.
