I am looking for a good resource either a book or magazine article that will take me through a very thorough step by step approach on how to finish a kit built plane in fiberglass to be custom painted. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You May wnat to checck out Harry Higley's book There Are No Secrets. Lots of info about finishes. His other books are worth having as well. You can get them through any good book store, local hobby store or Tower.
Model Airplane News also has a good book or two on finishes.
