It'l fly it, just not very exciting. The LA40 runs like a .30 with good torque. The best power I've found is with a 10X6 APC. Mine is now on an LT-25 with an 11X4 APC. Works real well on that one.

It will fly the 4*. You will most likely not be able to much more than take off, fly the circuit and land, but it will fly it. Your best bet for a prop is probably a 10x5.

I would imagine that with the .40 LA, it would be pretty sluggish. Best way to decide if it will work for you is to try it.
I have a .46 LA on my 4 Star. It flies ok but doesn't have much kick. I am planning on upgrading to a .46 AX.

Since you have it -- fly it. I would suggest using an 11-4 APC -- it will help substantially with the vertical lines.

I have a 4* with an OS 40 FP. This combo is doing well for me. Go for it I say...

It will fly fine, my club has 4*40 pylon races and the only allowed engines is a super tigre GS 40
(about 10% more power than the 40 FP) and they fly very well.

a 46FX is on mine. It flys very fast. I'm sure a 40la will make it flyable. I am usually around half-throddle the entire time anyways

Yes. And according to your "I'm not looking for a rocket ship" power requirement brief, perfectly for what you want.

I've too have used a few powerplants in the Four Star, and I own a .40FP for a power comparison. IMO the FP is a nice 2 stroke match to the Four Star airframe suited to a more relaxed lazy Sunday style of flying similar to offered by a FS-40. The LA should prove similar from what I've seen of them in fun flyers. But don't expect it to hover or continue vertically out of sight like it will with a .46FX. Personally, I found the hot .46's overkill and entirely wasted in this airframe. My ST S40K was as fast in S&L flight, and more than abundant vertical power. About the right sized 2 stroke for hotter performance in the airframe IME.
