Default Help; I CAed my tail wheel

I got sloppy and dripped thin CA glue down the tail wheel shaft and it has locked my tail wheel. I have tried nail polish remover, but the wheel is still frozen and won't spin. Is CA de-bonder any better than nail polish remover? Any other suggestions?

Thanks

If soaking it with debonder won't do it, fire up and apply your heat gun ! You may have to sacrifice the wheel while you heat and twist...[]

Good luck !

Acetone will dissolve CA faster than the usual debonder.

Hi!
Aceton is good but much better to dissolve Ca glue is pure nitro!! Stay away from Debonder (it contains nitro though) which is too expensive to use and not better than aceton.
As I mix my own fuel (as do most other modelfliers over here in Sweden) I have got some nitro at home. As nitro is produced in USA it must be very easy for you to get it in an auto racing store...and much cheaper than over here to ($15.00 for one litre).

If you mix your on fuel, use a small amount of the nitro you mix with your fuel. Also if you have some high nitro fuel, that will also disolve the CA.

You do not know what a lucky guy you are! This would be a great time to hack that old tail wheel off and convert to tricycle gear.

Just soak the tailwheel overnight in the nail polish remover (or acetone would be a little better if you have it) If the tail wheel isn't removable, fill a small jar, cover it with plastic wrap and poke the wheel through the wrap, and let it sit overnight.

By morning, it should break free (or dissolve the wheel )

Once it is free, you may want to spin it a few times to work some more solvent into it, and let it soak again while you're at work.

If you have access to a small gas jet such as a portable soldering iron/torch remove the tyre from the wheel and wrap a wet strip of rag around the upper shaft of the tailwheel wire to act as a heat sink. Then heat the tail wheel axel adjacent to the wheel whilst holding and trying to turn the wheel with multi grips.
This method worked for me when I suffered a similar whoops!! It took about fifteen seconds of heat. Once the wheel was off I rubbed the axel with fine wet and dry to remove any residue of the CA and then ran a drill bit through the wheel. Lubed the axel and it worked fine.

Cheers,

Colin

Hmmm, sounds like you have discovered one of the cheapest tail wheel to tail skid conversion kits on the market!

Thanks everyone. I ran out and bought some debonder. I had to apply the debonder every fifteen minutes or so for a couple of hours before it began to loosen. Once I got the wheel free, I took it off completly and drilled the hole a little bigger. It spins fine now. Thanks again.
