Trailer owners?
Who out there has one of those utility trailers to caddy around models?
I'm sort of in the market for one and was just wondering how much wampum these things go for. Not something big, just a single axle. Maybe 8 or 9' x whatever. Just a normal model airplane trailer.

6 x 8 to 8 x 12's can go as little as $1250, as much as $2500 new, depending on features like 2000# or 3000# axles, side doors, top vents, drop down gate vs. rear doors, aluminum vs. steel shell and frame. You can usually find some good deals by looking in your local area trade papers.

RE: Trailer owners?
Go for it. I have a 5x8 trailer, just the basic enclosed trailer for $1500 (new). Seems kinda excessive since I'm only hauling 3 40-scale planes in it, but it's great. I put a big 12 V battery and an inverter inside and a way to plug it up to a 12V Batttery minder/charger when I'm home.
I get home from the field and just unhook it from the truck and plug it in. I can hook up charger to Tx/Rx as needed . When I go again, I know everything I will need at the field is in there.

RE: Trailer owners?
Hi just ta let you know I have worked for one of the largest trailer man. in TX for the past 10 years. I am the lead mechanic here at Trailer Wheel & Frame. I might Be able to help you with any of your trailer questions. such as the torsion axle . true it gives a much smoother ride with light loads but in the long run most trailer service departments dont carry it on stock and takes two to three weeks to order one from the manufactures. most light wait inclosed and utility trailers are set up with a single or doble 3500 Lb eye to eye 4 leaf springs and an A type equalizers. if set up right they can give a very spooth ride at any wait. but stay away from the cargo craft inclosed units in the past year I have had a lot of these come in with torn frames were the hangers are welded this is because of a to thin gage still used in the three inch tube frame. buy wells cargo they are a much better trailer all around.

RE: Trailer owners?
It's almost impossible to find an 8' trailer that has a side door. Doesn't sound like a big deal but if you put anything else in other than an airplane, tools/fuel/parts etc.. it's hard to get to the front of the trailer.
I got a 5' x 10' V nose which means the inside at the middle is near 12'. I paid right around $2000 for it new with a 3 year warranty.

RE: Trailer owners?
Nice workmanship. and yes I can do it for less than five Hundred I have remodled quite a few trailers for some of my club members. but I try to stay away from the fold up utility trailers. I like the way you set up the hood very nice graftsmanship you must be a carpenter. I go to Astrocraft for the glass molded hoods with 1x1 alum frame and anglo American sells 1/8 thick sheet plastc for the walls. all my trim comes from cargo craft. to build an enclosed unit on top of a 8x10 utility trailer runs me about 350.00 in materials

RE: Trailer owners?
you would be suprised at the manufactures cost to buld one of those 4,000.00 dollar trailers. It rus them about 200.00 in materials. by the time it gets to the lot it gets about a 1500 dollar markup then it gets another 1,000.00 dollar markup before the sale. I get mine at factory price. build them up at the house then run the in the local adds for about 2,000 new .
