What's the best R/C magazine?
Hello everyone, I want to subscibe to an R/C magazine, but I don't know which one to pick. My interests are heavy industrial/commercial vehicles, trucks (big rigs), buses, etc. Any suggestions?

There is no one that is best. I subscribe to Model Airplane News and R/C Report. However lately Model Airplane News has been spending too much print on ARF's and backyard fliers...may have to not renew my subscription. I pick up an R/C Modeler mag occasionally just to see the ads. I will not subscribe because they have way too much ads and not enough substance IMO.

RC Big-Rigs?
Those are rare in any R/C mag. I like RCM for overall airplane info. But the above post is correct, way to many ads!
I was out of the hobby for 5 yrs, and after reading 2 issues of RCM I was pretty much back up to speed...
Later,
james

IMO RC Report is hands down the best one out there. I subscribe to MAN & RCM also. I get more helpful input from RCR then the other 2 combined. Also product reviews in RCR are never candy coated, if they don't like the product, they say so. Just wish it was in color but hey, that would cost more I guess.

R/C Report is gets my vote. I do read RCM and MAN but tend to flip through them. RCR is cover to cover. I do not fly jets, but like thier new jet section.

Has anyone ever noticed that the guys in RCR like to joke around and have a good time? I like there little puns, I think that's part of what makes this hobby great. It just seems to me that MAN and RCM are more serious without joking around much. I agree that RCR is the best, except for the paper. Dan

I like RC Report too. The only thing is that many of the columns read too much like their personal diaries. I don't really care to learn the editor's inner most feelings and the magazine's internal policies. I'm just interested in learning more about new RC products an techniques. My favorite column, though, is Ed Moorman's Fun Aerobatics. I read it with the same fervor I do Clarence Lee's RCM Engine Forum.
MAN typically gets panned for their perpetually positive reviews - never met an aircraft they didn't like - but I have to admit, their printing and photography is second to none. Yes, I'm vain and I like to look at pretty pretty pictures of fancy model airplanes.
RCM always gets panned for having too many ads. Well, their standard defense is that that page for page, RCM has just as many pages of content, if not more, than the others. I agree. Plus I like reading the ads to keep up with current prices and product info.
To answer HD's question, though, I don't know of any magazine that cater specifically to RC big rigs. The market for these kinds of model vehicles is extremely limited. I sometimes see them in RC Car Action and the others, but the RC car scene is pretty much evenly devided among monster trucks, off-road buggies/standium trucks, and on-road.

R/C Report
I'm glad you guys like R/C Report magazine and my column, in particular. Now if you guys would send me some photos of your acro planes. I've shot everyone at my field 2 or 3 times already. 6x4, horizontal format. The vertical ones are hard to print around effectively. Thanks.

I subscribe to R/C Report and I pickup MAN and RCM when it seems to be interesting. Maybe it is me and the aging process, but the reviews in R/C Report don't seem as provocative as they once were. I,too, enjoy Moorman's column and I don't mind Petit's face on the cover once and again. I begin to feel young and beautiful again and warm and fuzzy to think that you can still find work even if you are "good looking" challenged

Web Site
Hey, Volfy,
About my RC University site, when @home went under I was migrated to cox.net. In between working as an engineer, teaching college math classes at night and writing my column, I am short of time to build and fly. Fortunately, I have a buddy who likes to build scale, which I fly for him. He occassionally builds an acro plane for me.
I really have to get back on my web sites. Sorry.
If there was anything specific you wanted, I'll e-mail it to you.

Ed, I know exactly what you mean. I work as an engineer too and have a 4months old. I'm lucky just to get enough shut eye at night to keep from halucinating during the day.
I appreciate the offer. I was going to re-read the part on wing tip plates. I have a couple of Stick type planes (WM Super Stunt 40 and 60) with those swept back wing tips I'd like to saw off and replace with tip plates.
If it isn't too much trouble, my e-mail address is :

Thanks very much.

RC Report, by far the most informative mag. And I kinda like getting Gordon's inner thoughts from month to month (even my wife likes that). But that Frank Tiano guy is just way too annoying (LOL, I know you're lurking around here somewhere).

I like RC Report !!! They really dig into a subject and report the good, bad, and ugly. I get a lot of useful info from RCR. The good natured humor is worth half the subscription price...well, at least most of the time.
