How many coats for a cowl
Just a quick question. How many coats of paint do you usually use for a cowl. So far I primed it, 2 coats, and painted it (cowl for a J3 Cub), twice. I used Hangar 9 Ultracote paint. Also do you cc it and if so what should I use.
Thanks very much!

I prime and sand (and prime and sand) until it's nearly perfect. Then I paint two light coats and one wet coat. I like Klass Kote epoxy paints. Extremely durable and fuel proof. It's basically the same as the old HobbyPoxy and K & B SuperPoxy paints.
What do you mean by "cc it"?

I think he means clearcoat. Also, I've heard here that you don't really need to prime prior to painting, at least for ABS cowls. SOmone mentioned just using a scotchbrite pad to lightly roughen the surface, then paint.

Yes, I meant clear coat. As far as priming, I always prime anything I paint. Just a good habit to get into, just my opinion. I'll put on one more coat & be done with it. So far though, its looking very nice. Thanks for the replies!!
