Default Formation of 4 planes

Anyone ever connected four planes together to make a flying formation? I'm about to begin such a project with 4 shrikes. I know its been done before but its been a long time since I saw it in a mag. or elsewhere.

I've seen it in magazines too, but never in person. Just remember that you can't use ailerons or elevator on all four planes.

I'd just use one aileron on the outboard wing of the two outer most planes, and place one engine on each of those as well. (Or a single engine on the lead aircraft.)

Ken Willard had a "Blue Angels" formation in one of the magazines, MAN or RCM way back when..
Check their archived plans lists.

I think the plan Tall Paul is thinking of was called "Blue birds"
check the AMA's web site, Dec 1979 or 78.

See the December, 1978 issue of Model Aviation for Ken Willard's Blue Birds. You can get a reprint from the AMA Library. The four fuselages are powered by a .10 engine.

Thanks Dave. I found the article and it was interesting. Boy, the AMA search engine is weird! Thanks again. I'm going to be using 4 Lanier Shrikes. Not sure yet about power. Will study plans when they arive for best options. Could be one .32 - .40 or dual .25's

Be sure to post pictures and keep us updated. I've always liked the idea and look forward to hearing more.
