Default 1/16" SHEETING ON WING COMMON?

I recently bought an older biplane that was modified from a kit. I decided I would remove the covering on the wings and re-cover. I noticed that the bi-plane had 1/16" sheeting. If I apply pressure in between the ribs, the sheeting seems to flex easily, even though the sheeting is not damaged. Is this something I need to worry about. Is this sheeting too thin for a wing? I need your expert advice.

Thanks in advance

it probably started life as 3/32... some judicious sanding changed that anyway it's fine just a bit frail so be careful when grabbing the plane... not that a few cracks will hurt structure... just looks.

I've built a couple of planes that called for 1/16th sheeting on the wings. Just be careful with it.

Bullseye, on your other post (that was deleted) I said that the Hog Bipe has wing sheeting of 1/16" x 4" for both wings. I measured it yesterday when I got home from work and it is 1/16" X 3". Not that it changes the thickness, but it does not start out at 3/32" in this kit. It does leave the LE's a little fragile, but the plane does have enough ribs in the construction that it shouldn't present too much of a problem. Although I wouldn't try picking up the wing or plane with just the LE.

I really appreciate all of your input guys. I was also thinking that when the wing is covered, it will definately give it additional strength.
