Anybody ever use rustoleum silver metalic paint?
I am using rustoleum silver metalic paint on my tf 1/7 p-51. should I put a clear coat over it once I am done painting or can I leave it like it is? My father used to rustoleum pastel paints on his tf p-40 and he hasn't had any problems with paint running after fuel came in contact into it. I like the metallic finish that I have put on it but I have heard that some silver metallic paints loose their shine after a clear coat is applied. If anyone has any ideas about what I should do I would really appreciate it.

You can do a couple of things.
Put some Rustoleum on a test panel, and after it dries, see if it is fuel proof or not. If it isn't fuel proof you will need to clear coat the plane.
For clear coating I suggest LusterKote clear, Ultracote clear or a water base polyurethane.
FWIW - I have not had any problems with silver SolarTex or Coverite fabric losing their shine after clear coating with water base poly. For future reference, Dupli-Color Truck and Van paint makes a silver that is an almost perfect match for silver SolarTex and Coverite Fabric. This is an ACRYLIC lacquer paint. Any paint that is LABELED an ACRYLIC is fuel proof, just be careful about compatibility. You can put enamel over lacquer, but not the reverse.
