Checker Board Techniques??
Anyone found a great way of making and applying checkboards? Yes, I know they are getting old, but I still like them. I am working on a scheme using the AeroKote. Some cool checkerboard pics would be nice as well guys. (No I won't copy your scheme) Unless it really looks great.

Simplest way, if available in the color and size you like, is to buy checkerboard covering. I'm not familiar with AeroKote but monokote and ultracoat have several combinations. Cutting and applying individual squares over a base could be a pretty big project.

Thanks Carrell, I have used the check sheets, and that does make it easy. I have heard some talk about a way to cut out all the squares then sticking them to the backing upside down.
Then transfer to the plane. dunno. Looking for others methods. Thanks.

I just do mine the old fashioned way...cover the area in the lighter color, then figure out what size squares you need. Cut them out of the darker color covering and then lay out the grid on the surface with a water soluble marker. Then I iron down the squares using just enough heat to get the adhesive to activate. Keep the iron moving and you shouldn't get too many bubble. Then wipe the whole area down with some windex to get rid of the gridlines. At the very end after everything has set overnight I go over just the edges of the squares with a trim iron set on high.

Here is an article by AnnMarie Cross. http://www.top-flite.com/reviews/trimgraphics.html
It specifically describes a technique using Frisket to put graphics down in MonoKote. The Frisket technique works equally well with checkerboards. As a matter of fact, it is a lot easier to do a checker board than graphics.

Here's two I've done recently. The first picture is all hand cut vinyl (the checks only) on coroplast. Took forever to get it right!
