Trimming out a windshield??
Hi Guys,
I am getting to the finishing stages of my Sig 1/4 scale Clipped Wing Cub, I am waiting for the paint to dry so I can clear coat then mount the windshield and windows. The delima I am having is trying to figure out the best way to trim out the windshield where it meets the boot cowl (fuselage). I thought about using trim tape that matches the color of the plane but I do not know how durable this will be?? Any suggestions??

RE: Trimming out a windshield??
I have used trim tape around wind shields and have had everything from great success to outright failure.
For me it seems to equate to whether the winshield is exposed to glow exhaust residue. The gassers and the glow models that keep the windshield dry last forever. The exposed ones have been varying degrees of success even when sealing down the edges with everything from thin CA to clear dope and clear epoxy.
The saving grace is that replacement while annoying is not too difficult. Just pull it off clean up the residue with anything from Goo Gone or like products to lighter fluid and put it down again.
Also those trim tapes that say they should be exposed to sunlight prior to subjecting them to fuel or waxes mean it.

Trim tape worked better for me than the gold foil we use on our jets. It sticks like heck and doesn't come off at 430 knots, but it won't stick to a model plane very well for some reason and forget bending it. Its a foil instead of a tape so it doesn't bend at all.
Trim tape works pretty good usually and you can get it to flow around the corners better.
