Default Pipe dream questions?

I'm about to fly my pipe dream. I think it is under powered though
with a 25 cc gas engine. Here are some questions for anyone
that has flown one.

What size engine are you using?
How much does yours weigh?
Where did you balance your plane?
Is there anything i should look out for?

Thanks for your help.

Default Pipe Dream

Hi Craig,
I currently have one of these, but haven't got to fly it. I did have one years ago. I finished the building on the plane. The intructions said it would fly on a .61 and up. I thought no way, on a cold day, would it fly on a .61. So of course I had to try it with a Super Tigre .61. You know, it will fly on a .61. Or should I say it would barely fly on a .61. The climb rate was about 1/10 of an inch per second.
But anyway. A 25 cc gas will fly it, no problem. I can't remeber the balance point, or the weight.
What I do remember is that on a deadstick, you should find a place to land fast. Not to scare you, but it drops like a rock without power.
Overall I enjoyed flying mine. It was quite a conversation piece, being it was the ugliest airplane at the field. It will draw a crowd!
Hope this helps...

Default pipe dream?

Thank you for your reply. Mine is about 15 lbs which gives it
a real big 38 oz/sqft wing loading. I'm going to give it a try
next weekend. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

thanks again,
craig

Wow, what an old Byron Kit. As I remember those who owned them had to really watch out for nuts and bolts dropping out due to vibration, etc. Use lots of lock-tite!!!!!

Flew the pipe today for the first time. The 25 was plenty of
power. Very predictable in flight. I was thinking of selling
it in Perry, but it flew so well I think I'll hold on to her for a while!
