It might help to know which ARF or kit you have. My 1/5 Sig (84.5 inch wing) c/g is 3-1/2 inches behind the leading edge. My Hangar 9 Cub (80 inch wing) is 3-1/4 inches behind the leading edge. I think if you start at about 3-14 inches, you'll be okay. Both of mine are full span, but that shouldn't make a difference.

well I'm currently building a Great Planes 60 J-3 CUb which is 83" clipped so I'd like to think it is this plane. I'm building it full span since I plan on putting floats on it or carry a camcorder. the center of the CG is at thr rear of the spare according to th plans. the instructions say 4 1/2 inches which is what I measure on the plans. the ARF and the kit are identical so 4 1/2

Im not sure who made this plane? The guy has passed away.

But it looks just like the one in the tower hobbie catalog which is Great Planes.

redfox is probably correct. What is the chord of the wing (leading edge to trailing edge width)? If it is the larger scale plane, the c/g is probably further back than what my planes are.

Given your wing chord, the scale has to be no greater than 1/5. My 1/5 Sig has a chord of 12-1/4 inches, and my 1/4 BUSA plans show a chord of 16-1/4 inches. So..... I figure your plane is a full-span of some sort. I would go with the more forward c/g like my planes have. I think you'll be safe with about 3-1/4 to 3-3/8 inches back from the leading edge. Even if by odd chance it is a larger scale with clipped wing, your c/g will be too far forward, safer than too far rearward. The Cub has a lot of elevator authority, and will fly controllably nose heavy. But..... I doubt it's a larger scale, so I think it will be fine.

mine has a 13" chord so it's not a GP 60 cub. either a sig 1/5 scale or a GP 40 cub with a full span
