Default Max rpm range for an Enya .15?

I'm trying to tune an Enya .15, what max rpm range should I be looking for? I just bought a tach today and got baseline numbers of 12,200. I thought it should be around 15K?

What size of prop are you using? Something in the 7 to 8" diameter?

12,200 is not too bad, with the 8x4 If the airplane is small and clean, you might like the performance with a 7x5. If big and draggy, try something around 8x3-3.5 if you can find them. There is no "one prop" for an engine, because you are trying to get the power from the engine (which takes rpm), while trying to transfer that energy to moving air. The best thing is to experiment. This includes clipping the diameter sometimes, because stock props are often limited in size selection.

Actually this is my first time trying to tune an engine myself.

I wasn't sure if I should be shooting for 12K or 16K or what.

It's mostly a matter of engine load that determines the correct needle setting. As the prop load increases, the range of acceptable needle valve setting shrinks. When running wide open, with a correct setting, the engine should speed up slightly when you give the fuel line a quick pinch. If it sags, then richen up and try again. What many don't realize is that the engine will need more fuel in the air as the engine unloads and the rpm increases. This also requires the fuel tank in the correct position relative to the needle valve, which sadly many airplane designers tend to screw up. The correct position is the center of the fuel tank should be no more than about 1/4" below the spray bar.

Good info, thanks!

I ended up at 15,600.

But what I noticed was that after I gave it WOT it went to about 14400 then began to increase in rpm to 15600 after 6-8 sec.

Another I still don't get is this air bleed screw. I was told that with the screw closed it should be max rich. But I could still see oil spray at idle even with the screw totally removed. So I closed it and it got better. What am I not getting?
