Default Flying Clubs

I have been recently told that the FFA says that everyone that owns a gas powered RC plane has to join a "flying club" of some type. And, this guy said that we can only fly when the club is out flying and can not go to a field on our own .

I would just like to confirm whether this is true or not.

Thanks,
John Smiley

To my knowledge the FAA does not make any attempt to regulate or control the flying of standard RC models. I think somebody is pulling your leg.

Sounds like an "urban legend" getting started to me. Some folks love to start these rumors to see how may others they can get riled up. They need to get a hobby (like modeling!) to keep them occupied.
