20% vs 30% Nitro in a Saito
I have been having sucess running 20% nitro in my Saito .82, but I keep hearing that 30% is better. Supposedly, 30% runs cooler, idles better, spins up quicker and provides more power. Is there a downside? Will the engine life be shortened?

See if someone will let you have a tank full of 30%, once you experience it you'll never go back to anything less. I know I won't

Jimmy,
I will have to say that I have first hand experience with your question. One of my planes is a 90 sized Funtana with a Saito 100 on the nose. I have been running Cool Power 20% for about two years now in that plane. I just switched over to 30 heli and what a difference it made. The engine is running a lot cooler and I haven't had any deadsticks from running the engine too lean. After running the engine pretty hard for about 10 minutes, I can touch the heads without burning myself. The plane runs great on the uplines and is a beast now on 30%. As Dick said, it is a little more expensive $2 - 3 bucks more than 20% but it is worth the performance difference.
My advise, make the switch to 30%, you will not regret it!

RE: 20% vs 30% Nitro in a Saito
Since my initial post, I've run 1/2 a gallon of 30% thru it. I don't notice a big increase in power, but idle is definitely improved. It will now idle down to 2,100 rpm. I have one gallon of 20% left, maybe I'll notice a power improvement of the 30% when I switch back to 20% to use it up.
It's only $2 a gallon more than 20% and it's worth that if for nothing else than the motor is less likely to stall while at idle in flight.

Taken from the Horizon Website second page

For unbelievable vertical performance in your Saito 180 powered Ultra Stick, try using 30% high performance heli fuel and an APC 16 x 8 prop. Up to 30% nitro in your Saito is fine as long as the oil content is high enough. That's why heli fuel is recommended. It's got the oil to keep the engine cool.
