Guess which prop performed the best.........
I had a MA 12X6 , K series on my OS 60 powered CG Chipmunk. The K series was the only 12X6 at the LHS. Well, I decided I needed to test some props and see if I could improve the performance. These were the props I tested......................
12X6 Zinger
12X6 Graupner
12X6 APC
12.5X5 Graupner
13X5 MA "K"
My test aren't scientific at all. I'm claiming one prop felt better, more stable and had more vertical performance. Can you guess which prop I liked the best ?

RE: Guess which prop performed the best.........
Geeze, your no fun.
THey all performed slightly better than the MA 12X6 K with the exception of the Zinger. The Zinger was almost 15 years old and represented old technology.
The APC 12X6 and Graupner 12X6's both performed well and very similarly to each other.
The Graupner 12.5X5 and the MA 13X5 performed the best. I liked the MA slightly better although the vertical performance was about equal between these two props. But the sudden acceleration offered by the MA simply trumped them all. From near stall slow flight to vertical was effortless and instant. Another thing that I noticed was more gyroscopic stability from the MA. At high alpha and low speed maneuvers, the plane just seemed more stable. BUT NOW , I want to try some better quality 13X5's.

I have been singing Graupner's praises for a long time. As far as I am concerned, their only downfall is lack of sizes, but if they have the size you want, get it!

I looked all over. I like Graupner props also. The closest thing they had was the 12.5X5 and it tested well against the MA 13X5, but lost. APC doesn't have a 13X5 , but I emailed them and told them my experience with the MA13x5. They might look into it. I'll check out those other brands mentioned up above.
I looked at the Bolly's and Mejzliks. $25 for a Bolly and about $45 for a Mejzik and niether offer a 13X5. I guess they should look good for that price !![:'(]

Yeah, but APC props are heavy and look like turd. Any of the modern carbon fiber props, such as Mejzlik and Bolly, will outperform APC and look good doing it.

Well, for static display purposes, I agree. Spinning props, however, look very similar form one manufacturer to another. And you might be surprised to know that some APC props actually do outperform the finest and most expensive CF props available. I was certainly surprised.
On balance, the CF and high-end wooden props are superior as a group. But in some cases the old APC airfoil, developed in the 50's or 60's I think, beats them all.
That being said, I would not put a battleship Grey, plastic, injection molded APC prop on a $5000 airplane....if I had one.
