Default Lateral Balance Goldberg ultimate

Can anyone out there give me any advice when it comes to lateral balance of bi-planes (goldberg ultimate 54")

Do you balance inverted or right way up??

The model has a tendancy to want to roll out of inverted loops this needs aileron input rather than rudder to maintain track.

There are no warps anywhere and everything is plumb and straight with correct incidence on both wings and tail.
I am, however, using a YS 1.40 FZ which is over powering it i'm sure..

any help will be gratefully received.

Default RE: Lateral Balance Goldberg ultimate

Baring in mind that we suppose the airplane tracks dead straight up when going vertical ensuring the engine thrust angles are correct
and super important, you're not pulling nasty tight loops and snapping out due to to much elevatot throw:

The first thing to check is that your elevator halfs are moving exectly the same amount. They Key word is EXACTLY.
Next seal the gaps between the stab' and the elevators. Do it to the ailerons at the same time... it make a massive difference.
Next make sure your stick springs are as tight as they'll go to ensure no subconcious cross mixing when you input elevator.
Dont bother balancing the plane static. Remove any related mixing you may have programed in and then Go Flying... make sure you have still conditions, the quieter the better.

If theres a little slight breeze make sure the following is done completely into wing, directly infront of you.
First pull a loop and notice which way it goes. Pull a BIG loop, that way you've going far longer to see whats happening.
Then roll the plane inverted, fly away from you in exactly the same manner and now push for a BIG loop. The plane should now go in the opposite direction.
If it does, keep on adding weight to the opposite lower wing till it tracks better.
If it doesn't, and goes in the same dirrection as the upright test it means theres a warp in the wings set-up some where.
You say it 100% straight so don't worry about that just concentrate on the tip weight. Remember you'll have to remove aileron trim you'll have added to compensate for the extra tip wieght.

99% of the time it'll be your elevator halfs which just ain't working in sync, plus air leakage between the the stab and the el'.

Have fun.
