Default Is KRYLON/RUSTOLEM primer compatible with LUSTERCOTE?

I want to buy cheaper primer than lustercote primer as a base for my project. Are the hardware store primers compatible with Lustercote paints? Thanks.

Here is my 2 cents,If I ever decided to use lustercoat again........ I will just buck up and use there primer.I had really bad luck with the primer I used (plastickote) with lustercoat. Depending on how big your plane is spend the $5 or $6 bucks and use there primer. They have developed the primer and paint to be used together.I use hanger 9 ultrapaint and like it better but that is me.I do like the glossy finish better on lustercoat ,but it is a little harder to work with.

But ,I too, would like to here if anyone has had good luck with any other primers? From Canada and the U.S.,The primers and paints might say the same name, but because of different regulations form country to country ,the mixture can be very different.
And so can the out come.

I don't know of anything that is compatible with Lustrecoat. There may be something, but I have not found it.

I use 'Plasticote' primer (cheap hardware stuff) and Lusterkote with no problems.

I have used Dupli-Color "High Build" sandable primer under Lustercrap and Ultracote paints with no problems. Make sure you let the primer dry for a minimum of 24 hours before putting the paint on. I also "mist" the first coat and let that dry before putting the rest of the paint on.

If you want the Lustrekote to match colors with Monokote then
you have to use the Lustrekote primer. If not then you can probably
use other primers provided you let them cure at least 24 hours.

My experience has been exactly the same as XTOL's. I've used Rustoleum primer with success, but I had to let it cure for 24 hours. But the color will not match the MonoKote unless you use their primer.

I think the deal is to use a white primer (lustercotes is white) to get the paint to match monokote. My project will not have any covering...all paint.
